Grandmaster Helio’s Favorites: Choke from Standing
February 6, 2009
Out of respect for Grand Master Helio Gracie’s recent death, but in honor of his life, and in memory of his art, we have chosen this month’s Gracie Jiu-Jitsu technique from the book, Gracie Submission Essentials, which, as you know, can be purchased in the Pro Shop at RKS and LKS.
From the book: “Grandmaster Helio Gracie believes in having solid grips for his submissions, especially the chokes. As the Grandmaster says, “If your hands grip properly, the submission is almost complete.” Many times, when fighting for grip control your opponent will concentrate so much on the battle for control that he leaves himself open for a choke… Whenever he is able to use his right hand to control the inside of his opponent’s collar, Grandmaster Helio likes to use this choke as a quick fight-ender.”
Website Tip: If you click on the image to the left, you will be able to view both page one and page two that cover this technique (remember to look for the page forward or back arrows that appear halfway up each side of the page).
Got questions? Remember to ask us at school!
